Providing positive, quality

dance instruction in Spokane Valley

since 1957.

Who We Are

We are a local Spokane Valley dance studio that has been providing quality dance instruction since 1957. Our classes include everything from tap to hip hop, and we offer classes for everyone ages three to adult.

We are Christian based, which means most of the music we use is contemporary Christian, but we also mix in some big band, Broadway tunes, and more. All of our choreography is age appropriate while still being challenging, and we like to keep our costumes modest.

Providing excellent dance instruction is one of our top priorities. All of our instructors have multiple years of teaching experience, and we keep classes small so that every dancer is taken care of (most classes have a maximum of eight kids). We also have assistant teachers in every class, which helps provide the one-on-one interaction that dancers need to take their dancing to the next level.

Our History

Our studio was opened by Tom and Joan Bleker in 1957. The couple were both performers who traveled all over the country - Joan performing dance, and Tom performing acrobatics, comedy, and dance. They decided to settle down in Spokane Valley as they felt it was a great place to raise a family. Tom built the studio from the ground up (literally), and it has been run by Tom and Joan's daughter, Missy Scheller, since the late 1980s.

Our Teachers

We have two main teachers at the studio, as well as assistant teachers in every class.

Missy Scheller (Owner/Teacher)

Missy is the owner of Bleker School of Dance. Her parents opened the studio in 1957, and she grew up taking classes in tap, jazz, and ballet from her mother, Joan Bleker. Missy has attended numerous dance conventions and competitions over her 30+ years of teaching, and continues to teach fresh choreography with the same foundation in technique that was started by her parents years ago. She teaches tap, jazz, lyrical, and toe tap, and was recognized as Dance Teacher of the Year in 2019 by Dance Revolution.

Peyton Scheller (Teacher)

Peyton is Missy's daughter-in-law, and she grew up dancing at Bleker School of Dance training in all styles. Outside of the studio, Peyton also danced for both high school and collegiate dance teams, and she also spent a semester working in entertainment at Walt Disney World. Peyton teaches tap, jazz, hip hop and lyrical, and she was recognized as Dance Teacher of the Year in 2020 by Dance Revolution.

Assistants
We have assistant teachers in every class which helps provide one-on-one interaction with the dancers, and keeps the class running smoothly.

Our Studio Space

From the front, you won't know our studio is actually a dance studio. The approximately 5,000 square foot studio is built onto the back of a house, so to enter, just park in the driveway and head down the stairs on the right side of the house. Our studio includes two dance rooms - one is a larger room (about 1,700 square feet) that is meant for older dancers and larger classes, and the other is a smaller space that is primarily used for younger dancers and smaller classes. We also have a third room that can be used as a practice space for older dancers. Each of the dance rooms has real hardwood floors that are resurfaced every year. Finally, we also provide a dressing room for dancers and a waiting area for parents.
